Miyamura: Journey from ‘enemy alien’ to American hero

HONOR-EDDIE MOORE/JOURNAL/JNORTH/DAILY/ 11-4-05 Hiroshi Miyamura, wears his Medal of Honor to the unveiling ceremony of the Wall of Honor in the State Capitol Friday morning. The Wall of Honor has the names of Miyamura and 11 other New Mexican who recieved the Medal of Honor.

Hiroshi Miyamura watched a lot of the Winter Olympics in South Korea. But just the mention of the country brings back a flood of memories. He talked about his heroic role in what is known as America’s forgotten war, in an interview with Senior Editor Kent Walz.

The New Mexico Japanese-American Citizens League (NMJACL) is the state affiliate for the Japanese-American Citizens League (JACL). NMJACL traces its origins to 1947 with the formation of the Albuquerque Nisei Club, a social club for Japanese-American families living in New Mexico. NMJACL is also a member of the JACL Pacific Southwest District (PSW), which encompasses the Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Southern California region.
