On February 19, 1942 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 that
authorized the forced relocation of Japanese Americans from the West Coast to internment
camps during WWII. More than 120,000 were relocated into 10 War Relocation Camps
including men, women and children; two-thirds were American Citizens.
New Mexico was home to four Department of Justice internment camps located in Lordsburg,
Fort Stanton, Old Raton Ranch, and Santa Fe that incarcerated over 6,000 men of Japanese
descent.
At JACL NM we are committed to paying tribute to those interned and to continue to educate
our community on this traumatic chapter of our history.
We invite the community to come and share the afternoon together. Light refreshments will be
provided.
