DAY OF REMEMBRANCE events are held every year in February by Japanese American communities and social justice activists across the United States. They commemorate the signing of Executive Order 9066 on February 19, 1942, which authorized the mass round-up and incarceration of all persons of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast. In recent years, remembrances have revolved around current issues of hate crimes, unjust detention, and racial profiling that parallel the events of 1942.
