2022 Aki Matsuri Performance Schedule

9:50 – 10:00 – BK Taiko (Anita Gallegos, Sensei) – Signaling the start of Aki Matsuri 2022 with drumming

10:00– 10:15 – Highland High School Navy JrROTC Color Guard (Under the direction of Capt. Bill Lane/ Presentation of the Colors/Flags), with Yoko Tadda (Singing of the National Anthem)

10:15 – 10:25 – Welcoming Remarks

10:25 am 10:45 am – BK Taiko (Anita Gallegos, Sensei) – Japanese Drumming

10:45 am 11:00 am – Yoko Tadda (Singer, Japanese songs and Shigin/Japanese poetry)

11:00 am 11:05 am – Miyagi Ryu Okinawa Dance (Yaeko Miyazato, Sensei from CA)

11:5 – 11:15 am – Yoko Tadda (Singer, Japanese songs and Shigin/Japanese poetry)

11:20 – 11:35 – Introduction of Distinguished Guests

11:35 pm –11:55 pm – AKKA Karate (Bruce Davis, Sensei)

11:55 pm – 12:10 pm – Masahiro Kamei (Tsugaru Jamisen/shamisen)

12:10 pm – 12:25 pm – Raffle Drawings, announcements/introduction of vendors, Art Exhibit Hall, food/drink break

12:25 – 12:45 – Santa Fe Wadaiko (Carl Tollander, Sensei) – Japanese Drumming

12:45 pm – 1:15 pm – Japanese Folk Dance (Natsuko Edelman, Sensei) – Japanese dances and audience participation with bon odori dancing on stage

1:15 pm – 1:35 pm – Bushido Kenkyukai Karate (Anita Gallegos, Sensei)

1:35 pm – 1:50 pm – Mayumi Fugami – Jiuta-style music performance on Shamisen & Koto

1:50 pm – 2:10 pm – Raffle Drawings, announcements of vendors, Art Exhibit Hall, Exhibition Pavilion happenings

2:10 pm – 2:30 pm – New Mexico Taiko (Calvin Kobayashi, Sensei) – Japanese Drumming

2:30 pm – 2:55 pm – Miyagi Ryu Nosho Kai School of Dance – NM Branch (Sanae Wright, Sensei) – Okinawa dances 

2:55 pm – 3:40 pm – Announcement and Introduction of Cosplay Competitors

3:40 pm – 4:00 pm – Madi & Ishi Sato – Performance of Ainu & Japanese songs and dancing

4:00pm – 4:10 pm – Introduction of Cosplay Contest Winners

4:10pm – 4:30 pm – Ah-Do-Ri-Bu Taiko (Michael Thornton & Genzo Sugino) – Japanese drumming

4:30pm – 4:40 pm – Announcement of Grand Prize ($350) & First Prize ($150) CASH Raffle Ticket WINNERS Aki Matsuri 2022

4:40pm – 5:00 pm – Closing Remarks

The New Mexico Japanese-American Citizens League (NMJACL) is the state affiliate for the Japanese-American Citizens League (JACL). NMJACL traces its origins to 1947 with the formation of the Albuquerque Nisei Club, a social club for Japanese-American families living in New Mexico. NMJACL is also a member of the JACL Pacific Southwest District (PSW), which encompasses the Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Southern California region.
