About the Podcast

Once, long ago, a group of young Nikkei youths wanted to put together a webinar series to highlight young people doing important work in our communities. COVID-19 threw a bit of a wrench in those plans, and as Zoom fatigue became a real concern for so many of us, we decided to revitalize the idea as a podcast.

For many young people, as we progress in our lives it can be hard to build and maintain relationships with like-minded people who share our values. It can also be hard to foster a sense of community, especially if we change careers and cities. We wanted to use Speaking Nikkei as a platform to highlight people who are doing important work in their jobs and in their communities who we think deserve recognition for it. And we wanted to help highlight what the future of the global Japanese diaspora is going to look like, and what values we’ll carry forward into the future.

We can’t wait for you to hear our stories! Check out the episodes below!
